Yamaha’s Daniel Reardon has returned to his pre-retirement winning ways in Nowra, NSW, taking the top step on the MX1 podium at round nine of the 2015 MX Nationals on August 2.
Reardon went 1-2 across the two motos to win the overall on 67pts from Kawasaki's Dylan Long (59pts) and Kade Mosig (Yamaha, 58).
“It's been a long time since I've been up here on the overall podium so it feels awesome," Reardon said. "To tell you the truth, I probably didn't expect myself to be in this position this year; it's been a bit of a hard year. The team has been great and I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to come back racing again.
"I love this sport and that's the reason why I'm back. I am over the moon to get this overall win, and to go home with a number one plate feels really good.
"Everyone works so hard on the CDR Yamaha team, and my whole family and personal sponsors have been very supportive, so this one is definitely a nice way to give back to them."
Reardon won the opener from Mosig and Adam Monea (Kawasaki), and in the second moto 20-year-old Victorian Dylan Long scored his first MX1 win ahead of Reardon and KTM's Luke Styke.
A notable absentee from the racing was New Zealander Ben Townley (Honda), who crashed in qualifying and hurt his shoulder.
Kirk Gibbs (KTM) was sixth overall in Nowra, but still leads the championship by 65pts (530 to 465) from Styke, and then it's Mosig (456), Monea (449) and Lawson Bopping (Yamaha, 429).
In the other classes, Yamaha pair Jay Wilson and Luke Clout are fighting out a titanic battle in MX2; Maddy Brown (Yamaha) won the women's title despite a last round clean sweep by Megan Rutledge (Kawasaki); and Wilson Todd (Yamaha) leads the MXD class.
