Kawasaki duo Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes have shared first and second places in round two of the 2016 Superbike World Championship at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand on March 12-13.
Rea and Sykes went 1-2 in Saturday's race one, with Honda polesitter Michael van der Mark well back in third, and in race two it again went down to the wire — with Ducati's Chaz Davies on the hammer of the Kawasaki pair this time.
Sykes got up this time for his first win of the season, and in the process snapping Rea's three-race winning streak to start his title defence.
Rea leads the championship on 95pts from Sykes (66), van der Mark (65), Davies (55), Yamaha's Sylvain Guintoli (40) and Ducati's Davide Giugliano (35). Australia's Josh Brookes (BMW Motorrad) is in 13th on 14pts after his non-scoring 16-16 results at Chang.
In race one, Davies and Markus Reiterberger (BMW Motorrad) completed the top five, and in race two it was van der Mark and his Honda teammate Nicky Hayden.
In world supersport, Frenchman Jules Cluzel (MV Agusta) won after holding off Kawasaki's Kenan Sofuoglu and Honda’s PJ Jacobsen. It was Cluzel's 11th career victory and his first since being sidelined through injury in the latter half of 2015.
Round one winner Randy Krummenacher (Kawasaki) was fourth from Kyle Smith (Honda), while Australians Glenn Scott (Honda), Aiden Wagner (MV Agusta) and Lachlan Epis (Kawasaki) finished in 13th, 15th and 22nd.
Krummenacher leads on 38pts from Jacobsen (27), Cluzel (25) and Sofuoglu (20).
