The defunct Binalong Motor Museum, which closed its doors in mid-2020, will soon be the focal point for lovers of vintage and collectable machinery once more, when Donington Auctions utilises the facility – located near Yass in the NSW Southern Tablelands – to auction off a private collection of rare and historic bikes.
Taking place within the museum on Sunday, July 3, with online and phone bidding also available, the auction will see dozens of motorcycles from a private collection in the nearby region up for grabs, with individual lots spanning models both old and new.

Noteworthy standouts from among the plethora of beauties is a 2008 Ducati Desmosedici (guide price $100,000 to $110,000), a 2004 MV Agusta F4 750 S (guide price $32,000 to $38,000), a 1973 Triumph X75 Hurricane (guide price $40,000 to $45,000), a 1972 Harley-Davidson XR750 (guide price $80,000 to $100,000) and a 1981 Honda CBX1000 (guide price $18,000 to $20,000).

And if all that’s going to stretch the budget a little too far, there are some weird and wonderful lots at the cheaper end of the price scale, including a number of early motorised bicycles and a 1979 Honda CX500 Quasar replica (guide price $1500 to $2500) – a feet-forward machine with enclosed bodywork and a ‘distinctive’ look that’s sure to draw a crowd!

In all, a total of 27 individual models will go under the hammer.
Viewing of the bikes is available by appointment only at the Binalong Motor Museum, among other locations, while the auction itself will take place on Sunday, July 3, at 2:00pm (AEST). The event will also be livestreamed.
