Rapid transit for wheelchair users

British firm Martin Conquest has managed to get insurance approval in the UK for it's BMW R1200-powered trike.

The 600 kilo machine claims respectable performance figures with a 180km/h top speed and a quarter mile time of 15 seconds.

Designed specifically for wheelchair users, the machine claims an impressive list of features:

  • Automatically controlled lowering and rising access ramp
  • Keyless entry
  • Klicktronic hand operated gear change
  • 6 forward gears and reverse
  • Front and rear disc brakes
  • Independent handbrake system
  • Ez-Lock wheelchair locking system
  • 17" alloy wheels at rear
  • VDO Dayton single CD tuner with 140 watts maximum output, 30 radio presets and 2 waterproof speakers
  • Breakdown recovery service
  • Body colour - graphite grey (non-metallic)
  • Immobiliser
  • Interior storage compartment
  • Reversing lights
  • Interior lights
  • Waterproof interior trim

However there's a sting in the tail -- namely the price, which works out to $53,690 ex-works.
