Aussie Moto3 sensation Jack Miller and American Pro AMA flat track racer Sammy Halbert recently added their names to the star-studded line-up of racers set to contest the 2014 Troy Bayliss Classic.
Organised by Troy Bayliss Events and staged for the first time at the start of this year, the 2014 event will once again be held at Old Bar, near Taree (NSW), and is slated for Saturday, January 18.
The event sees numerous motorcycle racing stars from a broad spread of disciplines lock horns over a day of old-school, flat-track racing. The inaugural Troy Bayliss Classic was a hit and if the provisional line-up for next year’s fixture is anything to go by, the 2014 showdown should be even bigger and better.
Miller and Halbert have joined a 36-strong rider line-up that includes the likes of three-time World Speedway Champion Jason Crump, World Supersport Champion and MotoGP race winner Chris Vermeulen, two-time Australian Dirt Track Champion and AMA Flat Track racer Mick Kirkness, Isle of Man TT legend Cameron Donald, Moto2 racer Anthony West, and – of course – three-time World Superbike Champion and MotoGP race winner Troy Bayliss.
Miller, who recently achieved his best-ever Moto3 finish of fifth at Misano, Italy, said he was thrilled to be a part of the Troy Bayliss Classic. “It will be great to catch up with everyone and get back to good old-fashioned grass-roots racing back on the dirt,” he said.
Halbert said he was looking forward to heading Down Under and getting to grips with the unique event. “Being invited to race the Troy Bayliss Classic is a huge honour,” he said. “Racing ‘Aussie-style’ dirt track will put my versatility to the test, but I'm looking forward to giving it a go. It’ll be my first time visiting Australia, which makes it even more exciting,” he added.
Event patron Troy Bayliss said the Taree Motorcycle Club, which will host the Troy Bayliss Classic, had been able to improve its facilities and increase its viewing capacity with funds from the 2013 event.
Tickets are on sale now but they’re expected to sell out quickly, with an adult in for $30 and kids (aged five to 15) and concessions in for $15. A family ticket, covering two adults and two kids, costs $75.
