Racing: Reed hits lead in Super X

Dominates round two in Geelong

After being rolled in round one, Chad Reed (Monster Energy Kawasaki) returned to his crushing best in the second instalment of the 2009 Monster Energy Super X Championship at the Skilled Stadium in Geelong (Vic).

The defending champion humbled the pack in three of the four five-lap motos that made up the exciting Quad Challenge finale, to clinch the overall victory ahead of Woodstock Honda Thor Racing's Daniel Reardon, exciting 17-year-old Tye Simmonds (Motorex KTM), round one winner Jay Marmont (CDR Rockstar Yamaha) and Michael Byrne (Rockstar Honda Maxima), making his first appearance in Australia for five years.

"It was a great track today and I was really motivated to race this week," said Reed. "We had a lot of work to do last week for the first round in Launceston, but we worked our booty off even harder to get the bike right for this round and I have to say it felt awesome."

"It was great to go racing today and I'm glad the fans got to enjoy it.

"I'm feeling comfortable on the Kawasaki, we were able to make some slight adjustments and it definitely suited my style more when we went out for practice and qualifying today.

"I'm aiming to keep this run going and put some more points between myself and second place in Perth next weekend."

Reardon led early in nearly every race, and managed to win the second one after Reed got away to a slow start.

"I have been sick all week so I am just really happy to be standing up here on the podium. The track made for great racing and Reed was just too strong," said Reardon.

Reardon is just 1pt (45 to 44) behind Reed in the standings, with Marmont (43) third from Simmonds (36) and Cody Mackie (Cool Air Kawasaki, 30).

In the 250cc class, Matt Moss (Rockstar Motul Suzuki) team showed why he is going to be tough to beat this series with an extremely solid win in the 15-lap final. Moss claimed the holeshot and never looked back to finish way ahead of JDR Motorsport MX Rad's Ryan Marmont (Yamaha) and American rider Kyle Cunningham (Yamaha).

"Everything ran like clockwork this weekend," said Moss. "The new fuel injected RM-Z250 just gets better and better and I really enjoyed riding a longer and more technical track. I can't wait to get to Perth this weekend and look to build on the great start the team has made."

The Monster Energy Super X championship will now head across the country for its first ever indoor race at the Burswood Dome in Perth.
