Australian Stefan Merriman's wretched year with injury has continued, with the four-time world enduro champion breaking his right shoulder blade in day five of the International Six-Say Enduro (ISDE) in Portugal.
Merriman came unstuck from his Yamaha in the fourth special test, and was immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Earlier this year, Merriman broke his shoulder in a NSW enduro event, not only forcing him to sit out the Australian Four-Day Enduro, but it also restricted his normal free-flowing style in the final few rounds of the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC).
Kawasaki's Toby Price took maximum advantage of that, eventually winning the AORC title, and he has continued that rich vein of form at the ISDE as the leading Aussie.
Price is currently 14th ahead of the final motocross special test tomorrow, and he could even leapfrog into the top 10 on the strength of his jumps pedigree.
Of the other Aussies in the World Trophy team, Merriman is now a DNF, while Chris Hollis (Husqvarna), Jarrod Bewley (Yamaha), Glenn Kearney (Husqvarna) and Kirk Hutton (Yamaha) are 23rd, 26th, 27th and 54th respectively.
The World Trophy team remains in third position, behind France and Italy, and 90 seconds in front of fourth-placed Finland.
The Aussie Junior Trophy and Women's Cup teams are in seventh and third respectively.
