Seven-time world champion Juha Salminen has claimed BMW's team's first ever Enduro World Championship victory by topping the E2 class on day two of the GP of Greece last weekend.
With French world champion Johnny Aubert (KTM) forced to withdraw from competition following a hand injury he picked up on day one, Salminen was fast from the get-go on day two, and steadily pulled clear of Yamaha's Cristobal Guerrero to make history for BMW.
"It goes without saying that it's great to have finally given BMW its first world enduro win, although it was disappointing that Johnny (Aubert) wasn't able to finish day two," said Salminen.
"I guess day two started where the first day ended. I was able to ride well and importantly made no mistakes. It's great for the team that everyone's hard work has resulted in a winning result."
Salminen won by 18 seconds on day two, with David Knight (Kawasaki) only 0.37secs behind Guerrero in third.
On day one, Aubert retained his E2 world title with a decisive 28-second win over Salminen, followed by Guerrero and Knight.
In the big-bore E3 class, Ivan Cervantes is on track to make it two title wins for KTM, while Honda's Mike Ahola holds all the aces in E1.
The final round of the Enduro World Championship will be held in France on September 12-13.
