Watching online videos are a great way to waste an hour or so (we know from experience) but this latest Youtube footage has landed a Canadian motorcyclist in hot water - though it could have been worse…
The motorcycle in the footage has since been confiscated and the owner of the motorcycle has been charged on three counts:
- Driving without due car and attention
- Speeding
- Riding without insurance
The video shows a 25-year-old rider pushing his Yamaha YZF-R1 pretty hard, touching 299km/h at one stage, and the footage is eye-opening to say the least.
At speeds of well over 230km/h the rider navigates his way through a few patches of traffic and the video has since attracted a lot of attention, more than 650,000 views in about three weeks. It's also attracted the attention of the Canadian police.
The rider cannot be charged due to a quirk in Canadian law - the bike is registered to the riders mother and not the rider, therefore police have to send the fines to the rider's mother, totaling around $1400.
Canadian Police spokesman Sgt. Dean Jantzen indicated that the suspected rider was not cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
Sgt. Jantzen added that the police didn’t have the evidence to charge the suspected rider nor the authority to compel him to attend an interview.
