An official product safety recall has been issued for owners of the 2014 model R 1200 RT fitted with the Dynamic ESA (electronic suspension adjustment) function.
The recall follows on from a global media release sent out by BMW Motorrad on June 6, which requested all owners of the machine to stop riding them with immediate effect, citing a potential defect in the rear spring strut.
The defect is related to the piston rod in the rear spring strut, which could break and cause an accident.
The recall is for 2014 model R 1200 RTs sold from February 1, 2014 until June 6, 2014. A letter is being sent to affected customers, and BMW advises riders to not ride their motorcycles until the defect is remedied.
