Australian motorbike importers are in talks with three-wheeling specialist Vanderhall to set up a local distribution channel.
The move follows the US company announcing it will build right-hand drive versions of its Venice and Carmel models by the end of the year.
Venderhall has had huge growth this year, adding around 30 new dealerships to its global stable.
The three-wheelers use GM-sourced four-cylinders engines – a 1.4-litre turbo in the Venice and a 1.5-litre turbo for the Carmel.
They’re mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and slotted into an alloy unibody chassis with push-rod suspension.
Cloaking the modern components is a decidedly retro look, right down to the wooden steering wheel and chrome-rimmed dials.
US prices start at $24,950 for the Venice and $34,950 for the more upmarket Carmel.
Vanderhall international sales director, Phil Dunmore, says the company is talking with a number of potential Australian importers.
“We plan to make both the Venice and Carmel available in right-hand drive at the end of this year, so I would hope to give you good news soon,” Dunmore says.
