Hidden amongst the huge line-up of new automotive fare unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show last week were a couple of two-wheelers that managed to pique some interest, including the 2015 Ducati Diavel (here) and the Qoros eBIQE electric concept.
Qoros is a seven-year old Chinese company which has aspirations to make it as an exclusive international brand, and the eBIQE probably came as a surprise to many at such an early stage of its development. But with the Chinese two-wheel market dominated by e-bikes -- petrol-powered motorcycles and scooters now being restricted or banned in some highly congested cities -- it really starts to make some sense that Qoros would like to eventually gain a slice of the pie with its own high-class design.
The eBIQE has a carbon-fibre body, and an operating system based on the Microsoft Windows Azure platform which it calls QorosQloud.
QorosQloud is based on a system used on one of Qoros’ cars, and has a five-inch touchscreen, with permanent 3G connection, traffic and weather updates, synchronisation capability, and a fingerprint scanner (or PIN) so the bike can be locked/unlocked. You can also check tyre pressures, charge and available range using a smartphone.
The eBIQE has three riding modes:
There’s 60Nm of torque, and it takes 80 minutes to charge from a domestic outlet.
The eBIQE remains a concept, but production could certainly lift Qoros’s profile at a rapid rate – in turn good for its car business. Let’s hope it eventually gets the green light, as a chic e-bike like this would certainly have lots of international appeal.
