Queensland's speed detection enforcement has been beefed up, with five police motorcycles – Yamaha FJR1300s – now fitted with mobile radar technology.
“While radar technology has been available for many years, it has only recently been modified to be compatible with police motorcycles,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Michael Keating said. “The radar unit is compact and fits easily to the Queensland Police Service motorcycles without the need of modification to existing equipment.
“The technology works in a similar manner to the car mounted systems however motorcycle officers will undergo specialised training to be certified in the use of the new radars.”
The new year will see a further 12 motorcycles across the state be fitted with the technology with the aim of having mobile radar equipped motorcycles in all major regional centres by the end of January 2015.
