On Sunday, February 9, the French Federation of Angry Bikers held a protest ride against the Parisian's mayor's plan to ban all motorcycles older than the year 2000, as part of sweeping measure to improve air quality in the French capital.
Anne Hildalgo's plans also include other age-based vehicle restrictions, including passenger cars registered before December 31, 1996, vans and light trucks by September 30, 1997 and coaches, buses and trucks by September 30, 2001.
Hildalgo has gone further, and in 2020 she wants to ban all motorcycles made before 2015.
Compensatory measures would include zero-interest loans towards acquiring a new vehicle, supports for car alternatives, building more electric charging stations, and reduced parking fees for greener vehicles.
The mayor was due to put the proposal to council on February 10, with a possible date for establishing it as a law in mid-April.
Hildalgo was elected in 2014, the first time the French capital has done that since it began naming chiefs in the 13th century.
