When riding around town, making short commutes or attending events, the last thing you want to be wearing is full-sized motorcycle boots. If you are like me and don’t mind wearing low-cut boots, especially in the summer months, then Falco’s Maxx boot is one of the picks in this category.
Falco is an Italian company that has been manufacturing boots for around 20 years, and the Maxx model is from its ‘road’ line for riders who want a motorcycle boot without it being obvious that they are wearing one.
The upper is made from a soft-touch synthetic leather, while the lining is made out of an air-tech textile. The sole is soft-rubber and lock-laces and a Velcro strap tighten the boots.
Once wearing them you truly forget that they are designed as motorcycle boots. They are super comfortable to both ride and walk in, and I did do my fair share of walking at the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed.
The styling is very sleek and once your pants cover the Velcro strap at the top there aren’t many tell-tale signs that it is a motorcycle boot. There are no toe-sliders or hard plastic buckles, which allow you to wear them out to functions without feeling underdressed.
The easily adjustable lock-laces coupled with the Velcro strap allows you to get the desired fit. I am not a fan of laces on motorcycle boots as they can get caught on your pegs, but the Velcro tightening strap allows you to safely conceal them out of the way.
The synthetic leather is very flexible and breathes well in warm conditions, but does mark easily. The rubber sole is grippy and not once have my feet slipped off the pegs.
In terms of crash protection they are not on the same level as a full-sized boot, but do offer ankle pads and reinforced toe and heel counters. The Falco Maxx boots range in size from 41-47 and are priced at $179.95 recommended retail.
If you want an urban motorcycle boot that is very close to a normal shoe, then the Falco Max boots are well worth a look.
