The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has issued a product safety recall for KTM’s 790 Adventure, 790 Adventure R, and 790 Adventure R Rally.
The recall affects a total of 1289 examples of the bike sold nationally from March 1, 2019, to April 21, 2021, spanning 2019 and 2020 model years.
It's the second such recall for the KTM 790 Adventure and KTM 790 Adventure R, following on from a rear brake issue that saw 683 examples returned to dealers in April 2020.
The KTM 790 Adventure was launched to critical acclaim in 2019, and the KTM 790 Adventure R went on to be crowned overall winner of the 2019 bikesales Bike of the Year shootout.
The platform was recently superseded by the arrival of the KTM 890 Adventure and its higher-spec variants.
Details of this latest recall are as follows:
The preload force of the return spring located in the front brake cylinder may not meet specifications.
This can result in the brake piston not being returned to its original position, which can impair the function of the front brake and result in a loss of brake performance.
Reduced brake performance can increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to the rider and other road users.
Consumers have been contacted by KTM Australia and their authorised dealers. Authorised dealers will replace the return spring with a new and improved version, free of charge.
