KTM and the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission have issued a product recall for the KTM Duke 690 and 690 R naked bikes, over concerns of a potential for fuel to leak from the fuel filler. The recall will see fuel tank filler neck components replaced, including gaskets and the sealing of the fuel level sensor.
"Due to tolerance variations, the system comprising the fuel tank, fuel tank filler neck and fuel tank filler neck gasket may leak and fuel may escape," states a KTM press release.
"To remedy this new components including a fuel tank filler neck with modified gasket that is leak tight have been developed. Additionally the gasket of the fuel level sensor was also modified as part of this update and must also be replaced."
KTM says the affected customers have been notified by mail, while owners of second-hand machines can check the 'Service' area of the KTM website (www.ktm.com.au) to see if their motorcycle requires the update.
Affected machines should be returned to an authorized KTM dealership for the components to be replace – a 40-minute operation, says KTM.
