A product safety recall notice has been issued for Kawasaki's Ninja 400 sportsbike and Z400 naked bike.
A potential fault with the models' cam-chain tensioner has seen 504 affected models recalled, sold nationally from July 22, 2019, to December 22, 2020. The notice applies to Model Year 2021 examples of the Kawasaki Ninja 400 and Model Year 2020 and 2021 examples of the Kawasaki Z400.
Details of recall are as follows:
Due to a manufacturing fault, the strength of the camshaft chain tensioner may be insufficient. This may cause the engine to generate abnormal noises, and in some cases the engine to stall.
If the engine stalls, this increases the risk of injury or death to rider(s) and/or other road users.
Kawasaki Motors will notify all affected owners by direct letter or email and advise them to make an appointment for repair.
