Product recall: Honda CRF450R

Transmission fault in Honda’s big-bore ’crosser

Honda has issued a safety recall for all CRF450R motocrossers sold between October 1, 2015 and August 15, 2017, with a defective transmission countershaft gear cited as the problem.

According to the published recall, the countershaft fifth gear which is used for engaging third gear may break. It goes on to say that if that happens, the transmission may seize and cause the rear wheel to lock.

The recall applies to almost 1800 units here in Australia and there’s a full list of affected VIN numbers available on the government’s product safety website. Consumers with affected bikes should contact their nearest Honda dealer to arrange to have the problematic part replaced.
