Aprilia is the first manufacturer to issue a Brembo brake related safety recall in Australia, a recall which is expected to affect other manufacturers of premium motorcycles.
The recall relates to Aprilia’s Tuono 1100 nakedbike and RSV4 1000 superbikes manufactured between 2015 and 2017, and is due to a fault with Brembo’s PR16 radial master cylinder which, according to Aprilia, “may result in a reduction in braking performance.”
In America, up to 10,000 Aprilia and Ducati motorcycles have been recalled due to the Brembo issue, however the Australian Product Safety Recall website is yet to publish recalls relating to other brands.
The Italian brake firm released a statement last week which revealed the manufacturers affected on the global market are Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, MV Agusta, TM Racing, Moto Morini and Horex
“The recall does not affect other manufacturers nor other master cylinders, or master cylinders sold as aftermarket kits through the Brembo distribution network,” it said.
The Australian recall is being regulated by the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities and, despite Brembo naming up to seven brands which might be affected, it’s important to note that currently only Aprilia has published a product safety recall.
