The overhauled 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R is set to arrive in May, with a price tag of $32,130 ride away. Meanwhile, its high-tech road-going sibling, the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S will also arrive in May, with a price tag of $30,620 ride away.
Both dual-sport machines have received significant updates for 2021, with each powered by KTM’s LC8 1301cc engine that is now Euro-5 compliant. The engine has maintained its previous peak power figure of 160hp, but it does have a slightly lower torque figure of 138Nm.

The off-road focused R version has a new ergonomic design with new bodywork and altered geometry. KTM says the changes will greatly improve the machines handling and agility.
Elsewhere, the 1290 Super Adventure R features reworked suspension, state-of-the-art technology with a Bosch 6-axis lean angle sensor and an updated TFT dash, and an improved PANKL gearbox.
On the other side of the fence, the road-friendly 1290 Super Adventure S is highlighted by its new adaptive cruise control (ACC) function. ACC uses a Bosch radar unit to adjust the bikes speed to maintain a safe following distance to the vehicle in front.
KTM’s adventure range has been bolstered in recent times, with the release of the lightweight LAMS-approved KTM 390 Adventure last year, as well as the upcoming arrival of the KTM 890 Adventure R and 890 Adventure.
A new 750cc platform built by CFMoto could also sport KTM badges. The new CFMoto 800 MT is expected to arrive later this year.
