Barring any major calamity in the final weekend of racing on September 4-5, KTM's Toby Price has all but wrapped up this year's Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship.
The 22-year-old seized back-to-back wins at rounds nine and 10 of the championship, held last weekend at Kapunda in South Australia's famed wine region, the Barossa Valley.
"This has been by far the best AORC yet," Price said. "Conditions have been ideal all weekend and the track and venue is unreal.
"The (second) day went really well for me. I got off to a good start in the first three heats on the north track and then just carried on the south track -- we switched tracks midway through the day.
"I had a crash in the third one... but other than that it all went really well - really happy with the day."
Price defeated Stefan Merriman (Yamaha) and Jarrod Bewley (KTM) in the sprint format, and on Saturday he finished 39 seconds ahead of Ben Grabham (KTM) in the 150-minute cross-country race, with Merriman third.
Price is now 40pts (172 to 132) ahead of Grabham in the championship, which means he only has to canter at the final two rounds in Warwick (Qld) to retain his No. 1 plate.
Grabham will also have to watch his tail with Merriman (125pts) close behind, as is Bewley (120).
Current standings (after 10 of 12 rounds):
