Motorcycle sales have continued to increase in 2021, with 86,239 units sold between January 2021 and September 2021.
That figure represents an 8.3 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2020, which resulted in a total of 79,623 sales.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, motorcycle sales boomed in the second half of 2020, and that positive trend has continued through 2021.
“The steady growth shows us there is a strong demand from buyers who want to use a motorcycle as their first choice for the daily commute and for recreation,” said FCAI chief, Tony Weber.
Road bike sales increased by 2.2 per cent, with 26,119 units sold, but it was once again the off-road segment that claimed the biggest share of the market, with 35,120 units sold and a 10.5 per cent increase on 2021.
Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) saw the biggest increase of the segments through the first nine months of 2021, however this has likely been helped along by the new ATV safety standard. The segment, which includes ATVs, quad bikes, UTVs and side-by-side vehicles, increased by 14.1 per cent with 21,590 units sold.
Scooter sales only increased by 1.5 per cent, with 3361 units sold so far in 2021.
