A Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide that belonged to Pope Francis was sold to an anonymous buyer for 210,000 euros ($A319,500) in Paris on Thursday, February 6.
“It's a record for a post-vintage motorbike, from the 21st century,” said Bonhams France, the auction house.
Harley-Davidson gave the Dyna Super Glide to the Pope in June, 2013 to mark the brand's 110th anniversary.
The 77-year-old head of the Catholic Church didn’t manage to tear up the streets of Italy on it; instead handing it over for auction on the condition that monies raised would be directed towards a hostel and soup kitchen that serves Rome’s homeless.
Bonhams predicted the bike would bring in a moderate $A22,000, but it was obvious early on that figure would be decimated – even a jacket donated by the Pope pulled in a cool $A87,500.
