Police investigate Tawonga Gap trap

A deliberate oil spill on a Victorian road popular with cyclists and motorcyclists sees authorities on the hunt for evil culprit
According to a report in Albury-Wodonga newspaper, The Border Mail, the serpentine Tawonga Gap Road in the Victorian High Country has been deliberately sabotaged by someone with an evident dislike of cyclists or motorcyclists – or both.
Last Saturday (October 15) Victoria Police discovered a considerable amount of oil had been spread over a sharp bend on the C536, which stretches from near Mount Beauty in the east to Bright in the west.
The act posed a significant threat to any two-wheeled traffic – or indeed traffic of any description.
Police said they initially thought the oil was the result of a diesel spill, until they discovered two 20-litre drums concealed in nearby bushes.
Firefighters were quickly on the scene to clean up the mess, but riders should still exercise caution when navigating the area.
With large numbers of riders enjoying the region's roads on their way to the 2016 Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, police have said they will be especially vigilant.
Anyone with any information relating to the Tawonga Gap Road incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
