Australia's former world supersport champion Andrew Pitt will compete in the balance of the 2010 British Superbike Championship, and will make his debut in the next round at Mallory Park on June 25-27.
Pitt joins the Yamaha team run by former racer Rob McElnea, and his team-mate will be Dan Linfoot. The Isle of Man-based Pitt, who tested with the team at Mallory Park last week, admits he's going to be a steep learning curve.
"I have been following the championship and I am looking forward to the new challenge of racing in BSB," said Pitt. "It has been a tough season for me so far, but I am hoping that this can be the turning point."
Pitt will take the place of Ian Lowry, who in turn had only joined the team as a replacement for the retired Neil Hodgson.
Pitt started the year as a world superbike rider for the privateer Reitwagen BMW equip, but only competed in three rounds before the team cut short its campaign while it was waiting for some sponsorship dollars to eventuate.
When it was obvious that wasn't going to happen and the team was heading for oblivion, Pitt started exploring other options and wasted no time in landing on his feet in the BSB.
Pitt's countryman Josh Brookes (Honda) is currently running second in the BSB, with Suzuki's Tommy Hill the leader. Eight rounds remain out of 12.
