With an open tyre rule in place for the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship, the Australian importer and distributor of Pirelli motorcycle tyres, Link International, has unveiled its Pirelli ASBK Privateer Programme, which will see Pirelli-shod privateers benefit from some wide-ranging financial support.
Superbike and Pro Stock riders will only pay $499 for a pair of Pirelli Diablo Superbike 17in slicks ($100 under the 2013 cap), and if riders purchase a set number of tyres each round (currently three front tyres and four rear tyres) Pirelli will also cover the $495 entry fee. Competitors are also free to enter ‘round by round’, so state-level riders can still take advantage of these savings if they wish to enter their state’s round of the national championship.
A similar offer is available for Supersport and Superstock 600 riders.
In related news, 2013 will see the new Pirelli Diablo SC slicks – with new compounds and sizes (120/70R-17 and 200/60R-17) – make their domestic championship debut in the Australian Superbike Championship, while the new Diablo Supercorsa SC DOT tyres will reach the Supersport 600 class mid-way through the 2013 season.
Pirelli also says its 125 Diablo Superbike Slick will be made available to the Superlites class at $349 a set (with contingency to be announced prior to the start of the season), while $5000-worth of contingency prizes will be made available to the 250 Production class, which will be riding on the Diablo Rosso II HR control tyre.
Brenden Stoeckert, the General Manager of Link International, said the programme was proof of Pirelli’s commitment to the sport and its customers. “Link International has been a long-term supporter of racing at all levels in Australia and this coupled with Pirelli’s passion for racing has inspired us to make a real difference to the National Road Racing Championship next year,” he said.
“Our campaign will effectively keep costs to a minimum for teams at a time when budgets are stretched and money is tight and enable the sport to remain healthy well into the future.
“We believe that this form of racing has been instrumental to the success of Australian riders in the international scene and want to make sure that future potential stars are not limited from competing and gaining the experience necessary to take them to the next level,” he added.
