As is an Italian company’s want, Piaggio doesn’t mind treading the hyperbole line in its product descriptions, the latest effort coming on the all-new X10 scooter.
As the newest member of Piaggio’s Gran Turismo family, the X10 “is a true two-wheeled flagship with a refined design, characterised by the alternation of complex surfaces and innovative volumes… and a wealth of equipment and numerous details painstakingly designed to please the eye, but always in the spirit of maximum functionality.” And so it goes on…
But there’s no denying the X10 has a certain X factor, from the elegant lines to the practical touches: on-board computer with LCD screen, electronic rear suspension adjustment (for the flagship 500cc model), dual backlit controls, large windscreen, triple glove compartment and spacious luggage compartment.
The X10 is manufactured in three different single-cylinder engines, 125, 350 and 500cc, with Piaggio going all ‘KTM’ with the new 350cc powertrain.
The 350 is good for 33.5hp and 32.3Nm – comparable to that of a 400cc scooter – and service intervals are 20,000km, with only an oil and filter change every 10,000km. The rider can also choose from two different ECU mappings which can be selected directly from the handlebar.
The 500 engine, which introduces twin spark plugs into the mix, is dedicated to high performance enthusiasts and is capable of producing 41hp (30kW) and 46Nm.
The local importer for Piaggio told the Bikesales Network the X10 is “under consideration for 2013”, without elaborating whether that pertains to all three bikes or just one or two of them.
