The 2016 Enduro World Championship got underway in Agadir, Morocco, on April 9-10, with Australia's Matt Philips finishing second overall across the two days with 3-1 finishes in the newly introduced EnduroGP class.
Phillips was making his return to French manufacturer after a stint with KTM — which included the E3 world title in 2014 — and he swapped victories with Husqvarna rider Mathias Bellino in Morocco.
Bellino leads the EnduroGP standings after two of 16 rounds on 37pts, ahead of Phillips (35), Steve Holcombe (Beta, 26), Johnny Aubert (Beta, 24) and Eero Remes (TM, 22).
EnduroGP is the new blue riband class, and has been introduced in 2016 to officially crown the best of the best across all the three world enduro classes: E1, E2 and E3. Of the top five in EnduroGP after two rounds, Bellino and Phillips are E2 pilots, Holcombe and Aubert E3, and Remes is in E1.
Rounds three and four of the 2016 Enduro World Championship will be held in Gouveia, Portugal on April 16-17.
