Australia's defending E3 world enduro champion Matt Philips returned to his brilliant best with two dominant victories in round three of the 2015 title in Gouveia, Portugal on May 16-17.
The Tasmanian won the overall on his KTM from Sherco rider Matti Seistola (3-2 finishes) and Estonian Aigar Leok (TM, 5-3), and has now moved to within 12pts of championship leader Mathias Bellino (Husqvarna). Seistola is in second position with four rounds still remaining, starting with Greece on June 6-7.
“It feels great to win both days, said Phillips. “On day two I felt good the whole but on the final enduro test I overcooked the rear brake and nearly threw the win away. It was a close margin of victory but a win’s a win. I’m happy.”
In the other classes, Christophe Nambotin (KTM) is leading E1, Antoine Meo (KTM) holds sway in E2, and Laia Sanz (KTM) is so far undefeated in the women's.
