Phillips hits peak form in Portugal
Maximum points in the latest round of the 2015 Enduro World Championship as he closes to within 12pts of the E3 series leadAustralia's defending E3 world enduro champion Matt Philips returned to his brilliant best with two dominant victories in round three of the 2015 title in Gouveia, Portugal on May 16-17.
The Tasmanian won the overall on his KTM from Sherco rider Matti Seistola (3-2 finishes) and Estonian Aigar Leok (TM, 5-3), and has now moved to within 12pts of championship leader Mathias Bellino (Husqvarna). Seistola is in second position with four rounds still remaining, starting with Greece on June 6-7.
“It feels great to win both days, said Phillips. “On day two I felt good the whole but on the final enduro test I overcooked the rear brake and nearly threw the win away. It was a close margin of victory but a win’s a win. I’m happy.”
In the other classes, Christophe Nambotin (KTM) is leading E1, Antoine Meo (KTM) holds sway in E2, and Laia Sanz (KTM) is so far undefeated in the women's.
