Phillips continues sensational world enduro form

In Portugal this time, with his 1-6 results taking him to the top of the standings after four rounds

Tasmanian Sherco rider Matthew Phillips has pulled off his second Enduro GP win of the 2016 Enduro World Championship, this time in Portugal over the weekend of April 16-17.

In brutal conditions on Saturday with relentless rain, Phillips was in the hunt for the outright win from the get-go until it all came down to the last extreme test.

"I just went for it,” said Phillips. “It was pretty much a battleground so I took some completely different lines and gave it everything, and it worked. It’s great to get on top of the podium in these conditions. It was a tough day for everyone.”

The second day of competition in Portugal was another punishing affair which left Phillips out of the winner's circle and back in sixth position on his Sherco 300SEF-R.

However, he now leads the championship ahead of Frenchman Mathias Bellino (Husqvarna) and Briton Steve Holcombe (Betas), the trio separated by just 5pts. Holcombe won Sunday's round.

Rounds five and six of the 2016 Enduro World Championship will be held in Greece on May 21-22.
