Phillips blitzes in world enduro

A clean sweep for the Tasmanian enforcer, both times over his teammate Ivan Cervantes. The pair is now separated by only 12 points in the championship

Australia’s Matt Phillips (KTM) picked up wins in the E3 class on both days of the Enduro World Championship outing in Heinola, Finland, on June 7-8.

Phillips’ teammate, Spaniard Ivan Cervantes, scored two second places to retain his lead in the championship after eight rounds – but the margin has now been trimmed to 12 points by Phillips. The title will be held over 16 rounds.

In the other classes, Eero Remes (TM) and Christophe Nambotin (KTM) shared E1 wins, while Pierre-Alexandre Renet (Husqvarna) was a double winner in E2.

Riders next compete on June 14-15 in rounds nine and 10 in Enkoepoing, Sweden to complete their tour of Scandinavia.

Phillips was recently announced in Australia’s six-rider Senior Trophy team for the 2014 International Six-Day Enduro in Argentina from November 3-8. He will compete alongside the American-based Josh Strang and four locally based riders in Daniel Milner, Toby Price, Josh Green and Jarrod Bewley.
