The 2011 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) in Finland is now two days in, with Australia’s six-rider Senior Trophy team currently in eighth position, while the Junior Trophy outfit remains well in the hunt in fourth.
The Senior Trophy team lost five positions on day two, with Kirk Hutton (Yamaha) and Glenn Kearney (Husqvarna) both striking trouble – while gifted Tasmanian Matthew Phillips (Yamaha, pictured), reigning Australian champion Toby Price (KTM) and Daniel Milner (Yamaha) did their best to keep a podium finish within the realms of possibility with four days still remaining.
Phillips, 18, has announced himself to the world in the most emphatic fashion, and is currently third overall in the E2 class standings, two spots ahead of Price and nine ahead of Milner. Geoff Braico (Husaberg) is 14th in E3 and Kearney 59th in E2.
In the 15 E2 special tests held over the first two days, Phillips has come out on top in seven of them, and Price has also chimed in with one for himself.
In the Senior Trophy, Australia is now 43 minutes and 30 seconds (43:30) behind the host country, with Spain in second ahead of the USA, Sweden and Portugal.
France, which has won the last three Senior Trophies, hasn’t entered a team in this year’s event.
In the Junior Trophy, Australia (Scott Keegan, Josh Ballard, Mitch Harper and Mitchell Bowen) is nearly 19 minutes behind Sweden, followed by France and Great Britain.
Day three will take riders on a 300km loop, which will include three time checks and six special tests.
