Phillip Island goes undercover in 2011
Yes, there will be an undercover grandstand at the Phillip Island MotoGP round for the first time ever – but I reckon a lot of people had wished it had come years earlier….For the first time in Phillip Island MotoGP history -- 1988-1989 and 1997-present – spectators will have the option of viewing all the on-track action in the comfort of a weather-beating undercover grandstand.
This initiative is part of a number of new projects that have been undertaken to ensure that irrespective of weather conditions, fans are guaranteed to enjoy their MotoGP experience.
The Gardner Grandstand will host a limited number of covered seats, with views of the starting grid and turn 12, for $385 each.
“The addition of a roof to sections of the Gardner Grandstand will protect patrons from the elements come rain, hail or shine,” said Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott. “To ensure no-one misses this fantastic opportunity, patrons who have already purchased Grandstand or General Admission tickets to the event will be able to upgrade to the undercover option.”
Meanwhile, with just 50 days to go, the Stoner Pavilion and Siberia Grandstand have now sold out, along with a number of VIP facilities.
The Australian Grand Prix Corporation is encouraging fans to book now to ensure that they don’t miss out on their preferred location.
“There are still great seats available in the Lukey Heights, Bass Strait and Gardner Grandstands, as well as the VIP Pit Roof Silver facility above the MotoGP Pit Lane,” Westacott said.”
