Pedrosa takes China MotoGP

Rossi retires with zero points -- championship in trouble

Spaniard Dani Pedrosa took his first ever MotoGP victory in Shanghai over the weekend, becoming the fourth different victor in four races. His team-mate Nicky Hayden came second, giving the Repsol Honda factory team a glimpse of the glory days when it used to dominate GP racing a few years ago.

Yamaha's Colin Edwards ended his results drought with a cheering third place, though his team-mate and reigning world champion Valentino Rossi ended up retiring with tyre problems.

Suzuki would have been cheered by the performance of John Hopkins who hounded Edwards the whole way and ended up in fourth place. Sadly his team-mate, Australian Chris Vermeulen, crashed out.

However it was a better day for fellow Australian Casey Stoner, riding for the Konica Minolta Honda satellite team, as he was as high as second place during the race and finished a solid fifth.

Hayden leads the points overall on 72, followed by Loris Capirossi (Ducati) on 59, Pedrosa on 57, Marco Melandri on 54, casey Stoner on 52 and Rossi on 40.
