Ossa TR 280i 'lightest bike in the world'

Famous Spanish motorcycle brand releases TR 250i trials bike, its first new model in more than 25 years

In late 2009 Spanish trials company Ossa announced it would re-enter the motorcycle market, some 25 years since it last sold a two-wheeler.

A bold move, but one that seems to paying off...

We knew the European trials bike specialist had completed a good portion of the development and testing on the Ossa TR 280i late last year, and now the company has finalised production specifications on the new model, with the entire first production run being snapped up by dealers.

Power for the svelte trials bike is courtesy of a liquid-cooled 272cc two-stroke single, while the electronic fuel injection is taken care of by a battery-less Kokusan system.

Perhaps the most astounding aspect on the spec sheet is the bike's overall weight, just 64.5kg. The Spanish company reckons this particular set of numbers makes it the lightest trials motorcycle in the world.

Based around a chrome-moly tubular frame, the Ossa TR 280i gets 40mm adjustable aluminium Marzocchi forks and a TTX Ohlins monoshock.

The Ossa trials bike has a wheelbase of 1328mm, a seat height of 665mm and a 2.6lt fuel tank.

Manufacture will begin in September, and the first batch of 1250 bikes has already been snapped up by dealers both around Europe and internationally.

Ossa has confirmed that it will build a second batch of TR 280i models in 2011, which will be offered with (optional) upside-down forks.
