Now here’s a mower with some serious bite – and a top speed of over 210km/h!
Honda UK and British Touring Car Championship squad Team Dynamics have cooked up what is possibly the world’s meanest mower, shoehorning a 998cc V-twin donk from Honda’s defunct VTR1000 Firestorm into a humble ride-on HF260 Lawn Tractor. The result? A 140kg garden implement with 96Nm (70ft-lb) of torque – and a stonking top speed that will blow most cars, let alone mowers, into the weeds.
The souped-up grass-muncher boasts a very healthy power-to-weight ratio of 532hp (391kW) per tonne, while its creators claim it’s good for 0-100km/h in just over four seconds – you’ll have the backyard done in a jiffy!
Yes, this ride-on can still actually cut grass, albeit at a far more sedate 24km/h. At least when the job’s done you can open up the throttle for some drifting fun, with F1-style paddle shifters and a six-speed gearbox only adding to the experience.
To control the Firestorm engine’s considerable urge, Honda and Team Dynamics fabricated a custom tubular chromoly frame. The cutter deck is also a custom addition, with twin electric motors powering a 3mm-diameter steel cutting cable. Out back, however, that grass catching is not what it seems – it actually houses the fuel tank, an auxiliary radiator, and the oil cooler.
A Scorpion exhaust is in place to give the locals a 130db early-morning wake-up call they won’t forget – and you thought Burt Munro was the neighbour from hell…
Sadly, this custom grass cutter is a one-off and it won’t see production – more’s the pity. In the meantime, click here to see the promo video for a little feel for its turf-tearing capabilities…
