Ogura nabs first MotoGP win at the Dutch TT

Trackhouse tremendous as Martin seizes control of the standings

What a difference 10 days can make in MotoGP in 2026. Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) has gone from a 20-point lead to a seven-point deficit, but more importantly – for the fans anyway – just 40 points now separate the top five riders in the standings.

The big movers during the recent 26-lap Dutch TT were the Trackhouse Racing squad, who not only scored their first-ever 1-2 in Saturday's Sprint race ahead of VR46 Ducati's Fabio Di Giannantonio, but backed it up again on Sunday, when Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez crossed the line ahead of factory Aprilia rider Jorge Martin.

It really was an impressive weekend for the Noale factory. With Martin taking his maiden pole position on the RS-GP, Aprilia locked out the front four spots on the grid, with Ogura and Bezzecchi completing the front row and Fernandez heading row two. As the lights went out, Ogura was quickest off the line, but it was Martin who led the Japanese rider through the first turn, with Fernandez and Bezzecchi in hot pursuit.

A late switch to a soft rear tyre for Marc Marquez (Lenovo Ducati) meant he was ultra-aggressive in fifth. A lap-two scuffle between the two Trackhouse riders even saw him climb as high as third, as Ogura was shuffled back to sixth behind Bezzecchi and Pecco Bagnaia (Lenovo Ducati).

As he lined up a pass on Marquez for third, a sickening high-speed crash at the end of lap two spelled the end of Bezzecchi's race and championship lead – but he'll be back to fight at Sachsenring after remarkably escaping significant injury.

After his Sprint win on Saturday, and with his future seemingly firmed up at Trackhouse for 2027, Raul Fernandez was the rider on the move. Two consecutive fastest laps on laps three and four brought him to within three-tenths of a second of race leader Martin, while Ogura, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM), Bagnaia and Di Giannantonio were all bunched up behind Marquez.

Ogura made his move stick through the final chicane at the end of lap five before the Acosta-Marquez fireworks ensued. The pair jostled for position several times until a bold move by the younger of the two Spaniards saw the KTM rider run wide into Turn 1 at the start of lap nine, allowing Bagnaia through.

Ogura was now 1.6 seconds behind the leading duo as Martin continued to hold off Fernandez. Bagnaia found a way past teammate Marquez, who had struggled all weekend to find pace around the iconic circuit. A bit of luck came Marquez's way, however, as first Acosta retired with physical issues with his right arm on lap 13, and then Bagnaia with brake issues on lap 15. But there was no catching the Aprilias ahead.

A series of quick laps had put Ogura right on the rear wheel of Fernandez and, just when it looked as though he might make a move for second, his rear ride-height device failed to disengage, immediately costing him 0.9sec to his teammate. Sensing an opportunity, Fernandez snatched the lead from Martin on lap 17. Ogura eventually managed to free his ride-height device and followed his teammate through on the factory rider at Turn 1 the following lap, relegating Martin to third, some 6.5 seconds ahead of Marquez, who was still clinging onto fourth.

Two laps were all it took for Ogura to make what would prove to be the race-winning move on his teammate, as a bold pass by Di Giannantonio on Marquez into the final chicane sent the reigning world champion across the gravel. Marquez had the presence of mind to drop a position as he rejoined to avoid a penalty. Meanwhile, Di Giannantonio ran wide onto the blue and green sections of the track, earning himself a long-lap penalty.

So, with five laps remaining, Ogura was a second clear of Fernandez, who had half a second over Martin in third. Di Giannantonio was 6.4sec adrift in fourth, ahead of Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati), brother Marc and Enea Bastianini (Tech3 KTM), who was looking for a way past the factory Ducati rider.

Di Giannantonio served his penalty on lap 23 of 26, rejoining between Marc Marquez and Bastianini, leaving the leading Ducati rider in the championship to do his work all over again. It was at the same place on the penultimate lap that he eventually made a clean move on Marc Marquez for fifth, before also passing Alex Marquez on the final lap to finish fourth.

But all eyes were on Ogura, who fought back from sixth early on, overcame a malfunctioning ride-height device and passed his more experienced factory counterpart to become the first Japanese rider in 22 years to win a premier-class grand prix.

Fernandez and Martin completed an all-Aprilia podium ahead of Di Giannantonio, Alex Marquez and, eventually, Bastianini, after Marc Marquez was demoted one position for exceeding track limits on the final lap. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Yamaha), Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) and Alex Rins (Monster Yamaha) rounded out the top 10. Aussie Jack Miller qualified 18th and crossed the line in 12th.

With Bezzecchi having gone three consecutive Sunday Grands Prix without scoring a point, Martin now leads the championship with 193 points to Bezzecchi's 186. Di Giannantonio is 16 points behind the leader with 177, ahead of Ogura's 168 and Marc Marquez's 153.

The series now heads to Sachsenring for Round 11, the final showdown before the summer break, kicking off on Friday, 10 July.
