Nurburgring for sale: $165 million

Includes the current day grand prix circuit, museum, famous 20.8km north loop -- and even the defunct roller coaster. Seems like a good price to us...

According to a report on Autosport, the famed Nurburgring motor racing complex in Germany is up for sale, which includes the public-accessible 20.8km north loop (Norschleife) that runs through the Eifel mountains and has more than 300m of elevation changes.

Jackie Stewart nicknamed the North Loop ‘The Green Hell’ – probably an apt description with all the busted bikes and bodies (as well as cars and drivers) it’s bore witness to over the years.

The sale price is $165 million for the government-owned complex, which went into bankruptcy in July, 2012. The list of potential buyers is expected to be huge, all the way from wealthy individuals to consortiums – both private and manufacturer – looking to return it to a profit-making concern.

Here’s our tip. Media mogul Lachlan Murdoch loves riding his Ducati sports bikes around race tracks like Sydney Motorsport Park and Laguna Seca, so maybe he can now buy Nurburgring all for himself?
