NSW riders get an early Xmas present

The state has now fallen into line with Qld, NT and Vic in allowing ECE22.05-complied helmets to be legally used

The NSW Minister for Minister for Roads and Ports, Duncan Gay, has come good on his pledge — and without delay as well — to allow NSW motorcycle riders to use ECE.22.05-complied helmets once the Federal Government revoked a 'consumer protection' law which had previously forbidden UN ECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) approved helmets to be imported into Australia.

The Federal Government, under the auspices of the ACCC, revoked that law on November 26, 2015 (here) which opened the door for Gay to provide an early Christmas present for NSW motorcyclists.

The alteration to the Road Transport Act 2013 was made on December 11, and means that NSW now falls into line with the Northern Territory, Victoria and Queensland in allowing riders to use the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Regulation 22 Revision 5 (or ECE22.05) lids.
