Just like Yamaha’s domestic road racing team, CDR Yamaha Off-Road will retain the talents of its 2015 rider line-up in both Chris Hollis and Tom McCormack for the 2016 season.
The pair, who both struggled with injury setbacks last year, will contest the 12-round Australian Off-Road Championship as well as the Australian Four Day Enduro on the brand’s 2016 WR450F. Last year’s AORC third-place getter Hollis reckons it’s the right tool for the job.
“To have a bike based on the world championship winning YZ450F, yet tweaked to suit off road conditions, gives us the best of both worlds and with CDR Yamaha handling the technical development of the bike, it will be a real weapon in the bush,” he said.
McCormack, who was sidelined with injury for the entire 2015 season said he’s grateful the Craig Dack-owned team is happy to give him another shot.
“Watching my mates riding for the past 12 months has only made me want to ride and race even more,” he said. “It has been a frustrating year in so many ways but my health and fitness are now really good and I have just got back on the bike and feel like I haven’t missed a beat.”
Craig Dack, CDR team owner and former multiple Australian motocross champion, said getting the best out of an new bike has been a key to the team’s success and the 2016 season shouldn’t be any different.
“The riders will commence testing as soon as the bike is available and we will be ready for action come round one of the AORC,” he said.
