Nitrous-powered Buell reaches 238km/h on frozen lake

What next: the world ice racing title?

Could this be American’s new arsenal to wrest the world ice racing title off all the all-conquering Scandinavians and Russians?

That’s after Buell’s stunt rider Craig Jones recently braved subzero temperatures in Sweden to reach a speed of 238km/h on a frozen lake on his heavily modified 1125R, with only a few centimetres of ice separating him from the bone-jarring water.

The machine sported nitrous oxide injection for extra mumbo, as well as spikes (20mm on rear and 15mm on front) for grip.

“I firmly believe that your head is the biggest limiting factor in pushing to the edge.  The less you think about the risks, the further you can push yourself,” said Jones.  “So I kept it simple. I just put the bike into gear, tucked down and went as fast as I could.”

Simple logic, used to great effect.
