Kawasaki has unveiled the latest generation of its popular open-class motocross machine, with the new KX450 receiving a number of key changes.
Marking the first major update in almost five years, the 2024 Kawasaki KX450 benefits from an updated 449cc four-stroke engine, a refined chassis, and a host of new technology.
The changes include a new downdraft intake, a new cylinder with straight intake/exhaust ports, and a new centrally-positioned exhaust. There is also a new lightweight aluminium perimeter frame, an ergonomically improved shroud design and a coned disc-spring hydraulic clutch. Other new components include Brembo brake components, ODI lock-on grips, and a quick-release side cover.
Perhaps the biggest changes, however, are in the electronics department. The KX450 now has handlebar-mounted traction control and power mode switches, replacing the need for manual switching of the couplers. The bike also has smartphone connectivity, allowing the rider to change engine mapping via their mobile device.
Kawasaki also revealed the 2024 KX450X – a cross-country competition version of the motocross bike. The X version benefits from the same changes, but adds off-road tyres and a side stand.
Pricing for both models is yet to be announced, but Kawasaki Australia is expecting the bikes to arrive on local shores in the third quarter of 2023.
