Next-gen Ducati DesertX arriving mid-2026

Armed with a new V2 engine and monocoque frame, the latest Ducati DesertX seeks to fix issues that plagued the first generation

Ducati has pulled the covers off its new 2026 DesertX, with a new engine, frame and components marking a considerable overhaul.

Expected to arrive on Australian shores in June, the new-generation DesertX will be priced from $28,100 ride-away and it comes with changes that directly address common issues with the first-gen mode.

The new DesertX swaps the outgoing 937cc L-twin Testastretta motor for Ducati’s latest 890cc V2 engine platform. Ducati says it’s capable of 110hp and 92Nm, which is the same output as the previous model.

Also new is the monocoque frame, which Ducati says is “unique in the segment”. It uses the engine as a structural element and incorporates the airbox for better compactness, frame rigidity and air-filter access.

Ducati told bikesales in 2022 that replacing the air filter was a “45-minute job” on the first-gen DesertX. The new airbox position is designed to make that job much easier.

The rear trellis subframe has also been designed for easier maintenance, while the aluminium swingarm has been developed specifically for the DesertX.

Braking is handled by Brembo M3.32 monoblock calipers and 305mm discs, and the front brakes are positioned to allow for the fitment of high front mudguards.

Ducati has also upgraded the suspension with a new KYB unit offering independent hydraulic adjustments on both legs, while the rear suspension is complete with a full-floater linkage system that should help improve progression. The DesertX offers 230mm and 220mm of suspension travel front and rear respectively.

The bike is fitted with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tubeless spoked wheelset, both wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion Rally rubber.

A new 18-litre polymer fuel tank is slimmer and lighter and should help reduce the likelihood of damage in low-speed falls, while the overall bodywork and ergonomics are designed to improve rider comfort and performance both on- and off-road.

Ducati has also equipped the DesertX with its latest-generation electronics package, including a 6-axis IMU, six pre-set ride modes, a new 5-inch TFT display, multi-level cornering ABS and traction control, wheelie control, engine-brake control and a quickshifter that has no external sensors to reduce the impact of mud and dust.

Ducati has not yet said if the up-spec Rally version will adopt the new platform.
