Yamaha Motor Australia has unveiled the latest iteration of the TMAX scooter, with updates including upside-down forks to reduce unsprung weight, radial-mount brakes, a redesigned front cowl, full LED headlights, new front mudguard, 'sports instrumentation', a smart-key immobiliser and new 12-volt outlet.
There's also a special version of the maxi scooter called the Iron Max which adds gold-finished upside-down forks and brake caliper, special seat, matt black wheels with grey pinstripes, aluminium footplates, and a dedicated livery.
The TMAX's new-look face is equipped with angular LED headlights, and the refreshed front-end design also features a central diffuser that replaces the previous model’s position light. Located below the screen, this delta-shaped diffuser is designed to smooth out the airflow across the cowl and screen for better wind protection.
The mirrors now feature longer and higher stems, and the Yamaha tuning fork logo is positioned lower on the cowl to "emphasise the sporty new lines".
The LED headlights are always on, whether the switch is set to low beam or high beam mode.
The 2015 TMAX adopts a new Smartkey system, with riders able to start the scooter simply by pressing a button. The new Smartkey system is also designed to control the remote engine immobilising functions including the steering lock and the seat opening, while the front storage lock and fuel cap lock require physical key insertion.
The TMAX continues with the liquid-cooled 530cc four-stroke twin-cylinder powerplant with a V-Belt transmission. The TMAX was 500cc before receiving the 30cc capacity hike in 2013. The font discs are 267mm mated to five-spoke cast-aluminium 15-inch wheels.
The wet weight is 222kg, and the fuel capacity is 15 litres.
Price remains at $13,499 (plus on-road costs) for the standard model, and the Iron Max is $13,999 (plus on-road costs).
