New V-max confirmed

Patent applications reveal bigger V-four

Patent applications from Yamaha confirm the company is working on a new-generation V-max, over 20 years after the launch of the original.

The drawing shown here does not reflect the styling of the bike, but, along with the documentation, reveals some interesting technical detail.

Expect to see a jump in capacity to 1800, with variable valve timing and a new variant on the original V-boost.

The machine will also carry a new-style exhaust system, with stubby exit pipes.

It underwent no major development over its very long model life, which was 1985 to 2001 - though it sold to 2005 in many markets.

The original machine was based ion the 1200 Venture tourer engine, and claimed 145hp.

It remained a solid seller for the company, with a particularly strong following in Germany.
