Triumph has revealed the latest addition to its Bonneville family, the Bonneville Bobber. Unveiled at a special launch event in London overnight and based on the Bonneville T120, Triumph says the model "encapsulates the minimalist stying principles, muscular stance and purposeful engineering attitude of a genuine bobber."
That means the new machine scores a single seat, wire-spoked wheels, flat 'bars and the absolute minimum of bodywork, along with hardtail lines to really look the part, emulating the original bobbers of the 1940s.
A dedicated 'Bobber' tune sees the parallel-twin engine produce class-leading torque, says the British manufacturer, while the slash-cut, sawn-off 'peashooter' pipes emit a rich, throaty note.
And just because it's a Bonneville it doesn't mean the Bobber is a parts-bin special. Triumph says the model benefits from an all-new frame and suspension.
It doesn't miss out on much when it comes to technology, either, the model featuring a ride-by-wire throttle, a torque-assist clutch, switchable traction control, LED taillight, engine immobiliser, trip computer and selectable ride modes.
Described by Triumph as "a genuine factory custom", the Bonneville Bobber is finished with styling cues befitting the era of motorcycling it seeks to recreate. Bronze 1200HT engine badges complement signature Triumph badges, brushed engine covers, a branded locking fuel cap and satin and graphite handlebar risers.
The aluminium-pan solo seat can be moved up and forwards or down and back to tailor the riding position, while the engine gets a Bobber-specific twin airbox setup with two filters, a unique intake and a new output shaft.
The Bobber rolls on Avon Cobra rubber, its wire-spoked rims measuring 19in by 2.5in up front and 16in by 3.5in at the back.
As you would expect, the Bonneville Bobber is launching with a comprehensive raft of factory accessories – over 150 of them, in fact. Spanning bar-end mirrors to apehangers, a comfort seat to a cruise control kit, there's a heap on offer to change the Bobber's look, functionality and performance.
The new Bonneville Bobber will be available in Ironstone (matt), Morello Red, Stunning Competition Green and Frozen Silver, and Jet Black.
The retro market continues to charge ahead, with the Bonneville Bobber set to lock horns with models such as BMW's R nineT and R nineT Scrambler, Yamaha's XSR900 and Moto Guzzi's V9 Bobber, among others.
