XR1200 confirmed, new touring frame

Harley-Davidson has lifted the covers on its 2009 range, with the highlights including a new frame for the touring series (including Electra Glide and Road king) plus confirmation the flat-track replica XR1200 will be a local model.

H-D says the touring line-up scores new frame, swingarm, wheels and tyres, a package which the company says improves the breed's manoeuvrability. Along the way it has also picked up more luggage capacity and improved heat management aimed at extending rear tyre life.

Perhaps the real highlight is the confirmation of the XR1200, which will be selling locally for $15,995 plus ORC.

The firm has also promised a number of special vehicle and/or performance highlights, including a CVO version of the Fat Bob ($52,995), plus a new version of the VRSC platform called the V Rod Muscle ($22,995 - pictured in silver).

Something we won't be seeing here, but launched overseas, is the Tri Glide Ultra Classic, a factory-built trike that retails ion the domestic market for US$30,000.

Harley has a long history of producing trikes and it's nice to see this modern take on the idea.
