The Motorcycling Victoria-owned Broadford race complex is to get a new sound system, if the hopes of a group of volunteers are met.
Much of the money is likely to come from the Hughie Hoare Memorial Fund's Night of Nights, in Melbourne on 28 July.
Hughie Hoare is probably best remembered as a long-time volunteer race commentator - anyone who attended race meetings in Victoria over a period of 30-plus years up to 2000-or-so would have heard his voice.
Organiser Su Edwards explains, "The old sound system has been cobbled together from second-hand gear and, while it's done the job over the years, it's becoming unreliable.
"There have been times when competitors missed their call for a race, or spectators have been left wondering what's going on," she says.
The Road Racing Night of Nights will feature a young versus old racer battle of wits, plus an auction.
Some of the highlights of the latter are a signed Valentino Rossi replica helmet from Peter Stevens Motorcycles and Casey Stoner gear from Redwing Honda.
Pre-booking is essential (the event is looking like becoming a sell-out) and the $30 tickets, which include supper, are available from PrestonMCC.com.au, Cosway Motorcycles and Redwing Motorcycles.
Last year's event helped to pay for a new medical centre at the 200-acre Broadford complex.
