New Zealand motorcycle luggage and accessories specialist Ventura recently released the Mistral Touring-kit, a luggage system comprising a rugged motorcycle rack and a durable and versatile luggage bag.
Ventura says the 47-litre 'Bike-pack' bag has been made using the latest thermal moulding techniques; unlike previous bags the semi-rigid Mistral will hold its aerodynamic shape even when empty, while it can also be collapsed flat for easy storage off the bike.
Secured by the associated rack, the Mistral Bike-pack sits on the pillion seat when you're riding solo, keeping the weight close to the bike's centre of gravity, or it flips around and sits on the rack's grille when you're riding two-up. Because it lies on the bike's longitudinal axis it won't inhibit lane-splitting and Ventura says it leaves your bike's handling and aerodynamics largely unaltered.
Mistral Bike-packs can be zipped together to provide even greater storage capacity, but Ventura says the new system can't be zipped to the older Ventura Aero packs.
The Mistral Bike-pack has a number of internal and external pockets and is made from a durable, 1680-denier ballistic fabric, which Ventura says is also water-resistant material. The zips, too, are said to be water-resistant, but some water ingress may occur via the stitching in persistent rain, which is why Ventura also produces a matching storm cover.
A padded carry handle and padded shoulder straps make light work of lugging the Mistral around when you're at your destination, and the Mistral Touring-kit comes with all the required mounting hardware and full instructions.
The Mistral Touring-kit, with Bike-pack and rack, retails for for $489, while the Bike-pack alone retails for $199. It's available in black only.
